Bedding c

IRI https://w3id.org/gso/1.0/geologicstructure/Bedding
Description

Bedding as a fabric representing the average orientation of paleodepositional surface should be encoded through the foliationType; might apply to bedding that is layering or a foliation without layering (e.g. clast alignment in amalgamated beds).

Sub Class Of gsos:Sedimentary_Fabric c
Super Class Of gsos:Cross_Stratification c

Bedding Pattern c

IRI https://w3id.org/gso/1.0/geologicstructure/Bedding_Pattern
Is Defined By

GeoSciML v4

Description

Term(s) specifying patterns of bedding thickness or relationships between bedding packages. (eg; thinning upward, thickening upward). A disposition.

Sub Class Of gsoc:Physical_Quality
Restriction gsoc:isQualityOfonly

Bedding Style c

IRI https://w3id.org/gso/1.0/geologicstructure/Bedding_Style
Is Defined By

GeoSciML v4

Description

Term(s) specifying the style of bedding in a stratified geologic unit, e.g. lenticular, irregular, planar, vague, massive

Clast Imbrication Fabric c

IRI https://w3id.org/gso/1.0/geologicstructure/Clast_Imbrication_Fabric
Description
  • A sedimentary fabric characterized by disk-shaped or elongate fragments dipping in a preferred direcation at an angle to bedding.

  • rdfs:source -- Neuendorf et al., 2005, p. 322.

Sub Class Of gsos:Sedimentary_Fabric c

Clast Supported Fabric c

IRI https://w3id.org/gso/1.0/geologicstructure/Clast_Supported_Fabric
Description

A sedimentary fabric in which a framework of rock fragments in contact with each other forms the body of a clastic rock, typically with finer-grained matrix or cement in the intersticies between fragments

Sub Class Of gsos:Sedimentary_Fabric c

Cross Stratification c

IRI https://w3id.org/gso/1.0/geologicstructure/Cross_Stratification
Description

bedding in which bedding surfaces are arranged at an angle to the main (originally horizontal) stratification

Sub Class Of gsos:Bedding c

Crystallographic Preferred Orientation Fabric c

IRI https://w3id.org/gso/1.0/geologicstructure/Crystallographic_Preferred_Orientation_Fabric
Description

fabric defined by a preferred orientation of the crystallographic axes of mineral particles in a rock.

Sub Class Of gsos:Particle_Preferred_Orientation_Fabric c

Fabric c

IRI https://w3id.org/gso/1.0/geologicstructure/Fabric
Description
  • A pattern in a rock body. Emerges from the relation between parts (including constituents) of the rock.

  • The spatial and geometric configuration of all the elements that make it up. Describes the shape and characteristics of individual parts of a rock and the manner in which the parts are distributed and oriented. In sedimentary rocks, the fabric developed depends on the depositional environment and can provide information on current directions at the time of deposition. In structural geology, fabrics may provide information on both the orientation and magnitude of the strains that have affected a particular piece of deformed rock.

Sedimentary Fabric c

IRI https://w3id.org/gso/1.0/geologicstructure/Sedimentary_Fabric
Description

Fabrics in sedimentary rock like "clast-supported", "matrix-supported", "cross-bedding", and "graded bed" are considered kinds of Integral Feature/GeologicStructure because they depend on the configuration of parts of a rock body. Sedimentary_Fabric is used to represent penetrative feature in a rock body; Sedimentary_Structure is used to describe discrete features in a sedimentary rock;

Sedimentary Structure c

IRI https://w3id.org/gso/1.0/geologicstructure/Sedimentary_Structure
Description

Structures formed in sedimentary rocks related to depositional or diagenetic processes. Includes trace fossils. Sedimentary structure is used to describe discrete features in a sedimentary rock; penetrative structures (like bedding, cross bedding) are Sedimentary_Fabrics
